Solve : Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2502 //Won't read CD-ROMs?

Answer»

I've done some searching on the web and a lot of people have issues with this device, in that, it plays DVDs perfectly fine but when you insert a CD it attempts to read but gives the windows message about "Can't read CD it may be corrupt or need formating.. blah blah."
A few people, but not most, found the issue was fixed after the latest firmware was installed. I however cannot do this since the laptop I'm using doesn't have a floppy drive. I have tried to download the driver disk image and burn it ONTO a virtual disk which has an autoboot.bat file on it so OBVIOUSLY needs to be booted on start up.
I have ran the files in the autoboot.bat from the image (WITHIN windows) and get the following text:

// --- Copyright (C) TOSHIBA Corp. 1995-2002. All rights reserved. --- //
*** This Version-Up program was shipped

Drive Not Connected

Is there any way I can install this firmware while the operating system is loaded or can I run some sort of boot from this virtual disk? And is there anything else I can try to fix the device? Any advice would be much appreciated, Thanks
Shandy.

I have an old DVD Rom that does that same thing, will no longer play or read CD's (only parts of them) but is perfectly fine with DVDs (or Windows XP CD? ) It's pretty much a shot in the dark and fingers crossed for me Hope you can get your working.

Peace.Use a flash drive to update your DVD ROM if your BIOS support booting to usb.
Do so at your own risk. Make sure the laptop is plugged in while you are doing this.

Have you tried using a laser lens cleaner?Ahhh yeah, Duh!
Thanks JJ 3000, I will give that a shot, I can't believe I didn't think of that
