Answer» I have downloaded a file for my tom tom go sat-nav, it is a torrent file how can I open this file? A torrent file? Sat navs don't use torrent files. Bit torrent clients use torrent files. Sounds like you may be trying to download copyright satnav files. No piracy help here, if that is what you are doing. It is supposed to be just an ordinary update. But if you think it may be copyrighted I had best leave it alone. Thanks. If it's an ordinary update, that you are entitled to, can't you get it from the maker's website? I bought the tom tom second hand, and I don't have any registration details with it. No problem, it works fine as it is, I just hoped the update would let me use postcodes. Thanks Again. For your general information (COUGH) you use a torrent file by installing a "Bit Torrent client" such as Azureus and you start it up and load the torrent file into it. Then you wait for whatever the torrent file is linked to, to download.
OK I have got that, but I could not possibly do anything like that ( cough ), but it is nice to know.Ghosthunter,I suppose it depends on how old the TOM TOM unit that you have is vis-a vis update availability. The one i have (a TOM TOM 1) about 1 year old is still able to get certain updates.Just yesterday by going to the TOM TOM web site home page i downloaded the software for WIN O/S also available for a MAC and you must get that on your computer before you can update via the internet.I was able to update a least 4 separate things, their map updates, user provided corrections and 2 other enhancement items. All of this is free. Also i had a question and called their toll free # w (which is also available through their web site) and received fast ,courteous assistance which did resolve my question. I suggest you start there and if you need any further assistance with that post again and I'll try and give you more assistance. truenorth P.S. you will need to have the USB /TOM TOM cable to connect to the computer to achieve the updates.Excellent truenorth...updates without coughing ! !
My Tom Tom Go is the very first model SOLD, all I was hoping to do is get the postcodes to work. I have been told that it can not be DONE on the model I have, does anyone know better. Thank you all for your help.Quote from: Dias de verano on May 20, 2008, 03:21:53 PM For your general information (cough) you use a torrent file by installing a "Bit Torrent client" such as Azureus and you start it up and load the torrent file into it. Or if you use a real web browser like Opera you dont need a bit torrent client.
Why does everyone automatically asume every torrent is illegal or breaking COPYWRITE?
