Solve : The Giant Magnetoresistive Head? |
|
Answer» This idea has been around for years. If anybody can make it work, it will give the Hard Disk Drive enough power to go into orbit. (METAPHORICALLY) Ten years ago, it hadn't even been discovered. But now, after intense and dedicated research and development, "giant magnetoresistance" -- or GMR for short -- makes its mass-market debut in IBM's record-breaking 16.8-gigabyte hard disk drive for desktop computers using a special GMR structure developed at IBM called a spin valve.Yeah, old stuff. But the use of really wild ideas made it happen. Notice the GMR is still a work in progress. Comments? Quote from: Geek-9pm on January 29, 2012, 12:40:30 PM Comments? What's a "GBR"? Quote from: Salmon Trout on January 29, 2012, 12:43:02 PM What's a "GBR"?Thank you. Fixed it. Spell checker could not save me. Okay, here's a comment. You opened the thread by saying that "If anybody can make it work, it will" etc and then reveal that somebody has made it work, back in the days when 16 gigabyte hard drives were "record breaking". What NEXT... Mr Bell's speaking TELEGRAPH machine? Maybe one day people will be able to VIEW coloured images of ladies in bathing costumes from more than a mile away, using wires! There's only one big giant head I recognize! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Giant_Head |
