Solve the following for x, where |x| is modulus function, [x] is the greatest integer function, {x} is a fractional part function. 2[2x – 5] – 1 = 7

Answer»

2[2x – 5] – 1 = 7

∴ [2x – 5] = 7+1/2 = 4

∴ [2x] – 5 = 4

∴ [2x] = 9

∴ 9 ≤ 2x < 10

∴ 9/2 ≤ x < 5

∴ Solution set =[9/2, 5]
