Answer» Not sure if anyone has had this problem before, but it has happened over 3x to me. My one CAT will venture under my desk and step on stuff, and sometimes knock stuff over or turn switches off.
Wife woke me up today to the fact that her computer was not working. But her printer was on. Traced power to computer back to UPS that was not lit with green led. Pushed power button on UPS on and battery backup turned on and computer then turned on. On the dust on the top of the UPS I saw cat foot prints.
Solution was to tape a "dry" water bottle cap over the power button on the APC UPS so if the cat goes back there again, she doesnt shut it off again. I have had to do the same thing with power strips in which I placed a dry soda bottle cap with tape around the rocker switch on the 2 power strips that I have to power lower load devices like desk lamp and computer LCD displays.
So if anyone has pets that like to step on switches and power buttons, a plastic bottle cap and tape works well and is a safe solution.
* Also to mention, when my daughter was like 2 or 3 years old she was attracted like a bug to a light to the glowing power button on my two computer towers. Lost lots of work when I'd walk off to get a water bottle while in deep THOUGHT and C++ programming and I'd COME back to a computer that is powered off. I ended up taping a bottle cap across the face of the computer for a short while until she no longer found the power button tempting to push.
I could have just gone in and changed the properties of what the computer does when the power button is pushed, but there is no way to disable the power off of the main board if the button is HELD in for like 5 seconds. The clear bottle cap glowed and she no longer felt the urge to push the button after a few weeks and finding the TV, DVD, and VCR more fun to push buttons on to explore.I have an Irish Wolfhound...any good tips for him ? ?..... hmmmmm.... Thinking you will have to go with one of Tesla's ideas of wireless power transmission. Your home is basically surrounded in a primary transformer winding and everything internally is powered off of their own secondary windings cordlessly from the extreme EMF's Oh and anything important like computers, hard drives, etc should be surrounded in faraday cages including possibly a faraday outfit of copper woven clothing to avoid any ill health effects of prolonged EMF exposure. Just be sure to change before leaving the house in a BAD storm or you'd be a walking lightning rod in copper mesh woven clothing. Hee...nicely played.
