Answer» So, I "fixed" a minor bug in my computer, that gave me back sound and usb capabilities, etc.. because I accidentally deleted a svchost a while back.
Now that I have everything back, one of my crutial svchost.exe's is TAKING up around 99% of my system processes at all times, lagging everything on my computer, and is generally annoying me with all the extra noise.
I've tried SOLO virus scanner, I haven't found anything new that's related in Hijackthis, and I've tried AVG Free Scan.. NOTHING seems to fix this problem, and ending the processes automaticly restarts my computer within fifty seconds...
Anyone got any ideas that could help me out a little bit? I'm currently running Windows XP Home EDITION, Compaq based computer..
Thanks.A DESCRIPTION of Svchost.exe in Windows XP
Find out what services are running under svchost to see if it belongs there or not.ProcExp from http://www.sysinternals.com is good if you aren't good with the command line. Also, one of these articles might help diagnose the cause of the system resource drain:
