Solve : Suspicious of everything?

Answer»

On the 4th of July my laptop started BEEPING and I lost control of it for a long period of time. The next day (5th of July) I got a call from 'Microsoft' telling me that my license ID or something was hacked and being used for illegal activities. The man told me all sorts of scary things like I could potentially be sued, that my microsoft ID would be suspended and I wouldn't be able to use my computer again. He showed me that I have some sort of trojan horse 'cr' something or the other. He did a WEIRD test thing to prove that he was from microsoft. I believed him and I bought malware protection from Malwarebytes as he directed me straight there.

I found out that microsoft do not call people up and that this person was most likely a scammer. But now I have no idea what to do, I don't know if they can still access my computer and my details despite my anti-malware being active. I do scans with malwarebytes and windows defender and they all say that my computer is fine. But for some reason the beeping happened again even after my malware was installed.

I'm just not sure what to do, I emailed malwarebytes and they gave me a link to a scan but my computer blocked it. I just don't know what to trust, what step to take.
I've had my laptop for less than six months, I really don't want to have to buy a new one but I just can't trust that there isn't someone(s) monitoring what I do or that can take control of my laptop. I can't think of an ALTERNATIVE. First, as you have learned Microsoft doesn't call people. And NEVER allow strangers to access your system.

Second, neither MalwareBytes nor Windows Defender is an anti virus app. Do you have an anti virus app installed and always resident in the background?

Third, do you have a Windows dvd? If so, I'd suggest you start from scratch. Format your drive and reinstall the OS. Alternatively, does your laptop have a recovery partition? If so, utilize it to return the system to "as shipped" state. Then INSTALL an AV and use some COMMON sense in the future.
My common sense flies out of the window when I panic! Anyway, thank you and I hope it works Quote

In Windows 8 and 8.1 Windows Defender is an AV and anti-spyware app.Unplug the router/modem...
Do all your work at the local Library...
Problem solved.Someone can only do hacking when you are online. Just reformat your laptop. Please ignore the advice above...
