Solve : Surfing History?

Answer»

Hi, Hope someone can help with this...I use IE6 and windows xp...I want to get back to a site I surfed a few months ago to follow up something but I cant remember the site. Is there a way I can enter the date and review the surfing history for that DAY...

many thanks..
cm162If you haven't assigned your IE history cleaning for a short time you can view visited sites between 0-100 days.

Check properties of your IE and look up for history cleaning.Sorry I should have added that my clear history on IE is at 0 days and it clears history on LOGGING off.SOL, I believe. Maybe you can google SEARCH for the topic and get LUCKY that way?If you can find it there is an Index.dat file tucked away by Windows/IE which contains a list of ALL the sites you have surfed to going way way back.   Download SuperWinSpy to view the file.  It is NOT deleted by Disk Cleanup etc.  The only prog I know which will deal to it is CCLEANER which flags it for deletion on the next boot.

This particular Index.dat file is Hidden System and cannot be accessed while Win is running - the answer to any attempt to access it is the old In Use error message.

In my system the path/file name is something like - oh God I can't remember - will get back with more info.....

Modifying:   Back from the deep dark recesses of Safe Mode.
I am running XP Home - the path\filename is on my system is

C:\Documents and Settings\name\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\Index.dat

Note that it's History.IE5 even tho' you are using IE6.  MS has never explained what use is made of the file, it seems it's just information gathering...

Good luck
