Answer» Well said Deerpark. IPs and Cookies are over rated when it comes to security concerns. I like to say that if you are overly worried about anonymity then the internet is the last place you should be. What would be the place to be i wonder!? Well, you know, there's these old fashioned things called "pen" and "paper." Yes, they can be intercepted in the regular mail, but chances are thousands of prying eyes won't see...Quote from: Aegis on April 11, 2008, 12:38:38 AM ... but chances are thousands of prying eyes won't see... Thats the reason I prefer internet Hmm... I think i understand IP's a little better now. I was just curious because I have 2 computers, one I can access the forums here and the other one I cant. When I finished building the system below, a friend of mine I had helping me build it thought it would be funny to GET on here and be a little smarta$$ towards members questions and comments. Consequently, I cant access the forums from my new build.your banned just on the one computer? even if your 2 computers are on the same network? If you're computers are on the same network, sharing a broadband connection they would both be banned since they're using the same IP address on the Internet. The only way it's possible that maybe one is banned and the other isn't is if you were using different user accounts and your IP address had changed since the ban.Nathan, another possibility COULD be that he has more than one WAN IP. It is usually possible (at least where I live) to buy extra from the ISP and some ISPs even have products that come with more than one WAN IP. Computers sharing the same internet connection can be assigned different WAN IPs.Absolutely true Deerpark. However, that still wouldn't explain why one on his network would be working and the other would not. If his IP did get REASSIGNED both would work.I never said they got reassigned. If there is no NAT routing on the network it is possible for each computer to have different WAN IPs even on the same connection. For example: Computer A is assigned xxx.xxx.xxx.001 Computer B is assigned xxx.xxx.xxx.002 You IP ban A (xxx.xxx.xxx.001) that still leaves B unbanned as long as they don't switch IPs. Yea, he was logged in with his own user name. When he did it I had the new build hooked up to my modem as if it were the computer i'm on right now. Now my new build is in the living room hooked up via wireless network adapter. |
