Answer» I am puzzled about this problem and wasn't quite sure where to place this ? so here it is; Almost everytime I turn off or reboot my IBM thinkpad, it gets stuck on the 1st screen: IBM Welcome. I have to unplug it, pull the battery and restart it. Sometimes this TRICK works and sometimes I have to do it several times. Seems like if I turn it off at night, it will fire right up in the morning. I am using XP and Avast. Malwarebytes is also intstalled. I TOOK it to get cleaned when this started (It was allot worse!)and my tech. said the hard drive was shot and that it will most likely die the next time, but that has been a MONTH ago. Before cleaning whenever it went in to sleep mood I couldn't wake it up. But now other than the problem mentioned, it is working as a good as the day I got it. I downloaded Lenova's PC tools and it says everything is FINE. So, does anyonehave any suggestions on what the problem is? Thanks.Sounds like the hard drive is shot. Thanks! I changed my hard drive ; Loaded the CD and restart and it is still at the IBM screen and won't go past it, just like with the old hard drive. Could it be something other than the drive? Maybe something else is not recognizing the hardrive? ThanksAnother note; My CD is turning at start-up and other than that, I think I will just take it to someone that knows what they are doing since I obviously don't! Thanks again for the helpI've seen a COMPUTER with the exact same symptoms and it turned out to be overheating. Blow out the heatsink/fan with compressed air. You should also hold the fan with something so that the compressed air doesn't make it spin faster than it was designed to which could damage it. (toothpicks work great).
