I am running  a REFURBISHED H.P computer with Windows XP Pro SP3 installed. This was a clean install by the refurbisher.Installing a program a screen came up saying I NEEDED netframe WORK to install. I found from a Windows site to down load Net frame work 4. I finally got it downloaded and installed with considerable trouble. Then I got the program installed. Now when my computer comes on I get a pop up saying sprtcmd.exe net framework initialization error unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application You sure, it's HP?

Thanks for the replys. Thanks Broni for the awesome INFO  Anyhow I removed the netframework 4. The program I was trying to install took a 2.0 or higher net frame work. I down loaded that and everything works good. I found out this computer has a x86. I donot know if that is a good thing or not.Good news Quote from: chili on February 04, 2011, 02:58:31 PM

No such program exists. If a program was created for .NET 2.0, you must have 2.0 installed; 4.0 will not do. However, you will need 4.0 installed to run 4.0 applications; but 4.0 applications will not run applications created for previous versions of .NET.

Just consider the different major versions as entirely separate products; 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and 4 are the versions you would likely encounter. Some people prefer to install all of them at once; there is no performance hit and you are "prepared" for the eventuality that you get a program that does require it, at which point you would have needed to install it anyway.
