Solve : Sony laptop - issues with UEFI?

Answer»

Greetings!

Have a cute little ultra book (Sony SVT13115FDS) that i have been bringing back to life. It has been in storage for about 4-5 years and after SOURCING a POWER adapter i found the SSD would no longer power on. That is the least of my issues however. My main issue, is that the H2 BIOS has no UEFi boot option despite the laptop being a third gen i5.

After installing WINDOWS 10, i see it installed in Legacy MODE. So i tried creating a Win10 USB in UEFI and the system refuses to boot from that. So i decided to check Sony's website for a BIOS update. YAAY there is one! but the file downloaded is corrupted. and refuses to open. The link to my failed attempt is here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/svt-series-svt1311-series/svt13115fds/downloads/W0008109

Either its corrupt or it just refuses to download. i got it to download ONLY on my mac under SAFARI. Under windows it just refuses to download.

So I dont have UEFI, nor can i get a dang BIOS update. Can anyone help?

Specs are

Sony SVT13115FDS Ultrabook
4gb onboard ram
Intel i5: 3317U @ 1.7ghz
120Gb SSD
