Solve : Software install for my bluetooth prosthetic ETD.? |
|
Answer» My arm was amputated above my ELBOW last year and I now have a myoelectric controlled hand which is interchangeable with a myoelectric controlled ETD (hook attachment). Both the hand and ETD processors have software to communicate via Bluetooth which I am trying to install on my laptop. But when installing the software I'm getting an error message saying "SERIAL Communication port is not Available". What do I NEED to do to correct this? I installed a Bluetooth antenna and device manager shows devices are operating correctly. Screen shot attached. To decide which COM port to use, you can check the information that came with the program or your Bluetooth enabled device, or you can go to the manufacturer’s website. Most Bluetooth enabled devices select a COM port to use, so you don't have to do this. You can check to see if a device is already using a COM port on the COM Ports tab of your Bluetooth settings. For instructions about opening this tab, see below.I got it via scan on com port 9. The software is installed and now I just need a paring code which I can get tomorrow from my prosthetist. Thanks guy's!COOL Quote from: DaveLembke on December 23, 2015, 04:13:08 PM
To be honest, these instructions are beyond my knowledge. I got this software to communicate the other day using the scan on several different ports and it found my device on COM9 - COM 10. It now works fine on this laptop (HP 6715B). I couldn't run it on my Dell 1525 because the Dell did not have a bluetooth adapter in it. So today I bought a USB Bluetooth adapter for the Dell and am having problems finding the device via scan. Comparing the two machines I see a difference in the bluetooth settings. The HP 6715b which works shows "COM 10 - incoming / COM 9 outgoing". The Dell 1525 which does not work only shows "COM 6 outgoing". If this difference is my problem the how do I create "incoming" on COM 4 or COM 5 (or whatever COM port it needs to be on). Attached are screen shots of the difference between machines and the error "serial communications port is not available". [attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]Looks like it has a feedback loop that uses a COM dedicated for Input and one for Output. Thinking if you can CONFIGURE it to have an input and output vs 2 x inputs that might be the fix, but I never had to create a DOUBLE com connection like this for any devices to specify. I would think that there should be a properties setting for configuring each port and there you should be able to fine tune what the port is configured for similar to an actual physical com port where you can specify its configuration like baud rate and stop bit etc. Sorry my help is limited at this point... im going based on what I have done in past to what you have here and I havent had to deal with a double com device like this before to point out exactly how to accomplish the proper config. |
