Answer»

hI

I have a toshiba laptop and Vista Home premium....i have downloaded Skype and i have been using skype to dial out...it has been working...but on three occasions over the past three weeks..when I clicked the contact name to dial out...the screen shut down and a blank screen...then i had to reboot the computer ...then ok for a week or so....last NIGHT..i used skype to do a local CALL ..then it happened again...for some reason..my pc shut down because of skype...any explanations... has anyone encountered such problems. thanksIs this a recent problem or have you had this problem since you got skype?

Any error messages?

Does this happen with other programs? Can u tell me if it does this in safe mode; below is how to boot into safe mode.

By pressing the F8 key right when Windows starts, usually right after you hear your computer beep when you reboot it, you will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.

Have your tried a reinstall?.

Hi

thank you for your replies...after the computer shut down....i turned on the computer again and it was fine ..so far it has happened 3 times...it happened when I clicked on the certain contact and clicked on the "green" PHONE to say Go.....each time the computer shut down ...there is this message asking if i want to be in a safe mode or normal mode..i think...each time i clicked on normal mode...am i supposed to switch it TO SAFE MODE...what is the difference between normal and safe mode.....i just downloaded skype on this computer...thanks...Booting in to Safe Mode basically starts your computer with the least amount of drivers and startup items.
Following up on Annons suggestion, I don't think Skype can run in Safe Mode.

Does the problem only happen when you click that specific contact?

Also, try reinstalling Skype. What are computer specs?Hi

I just uninstall Skype and reinstall Skype and I tried to phone a couple of contact....the first one was fine and then the second one....the whole screen turned blue...computer shut down again....a friend of mine says the problem lies with Skype not my computer...my computer is Toshiba and it is new..a friend suggested that it was due to high traffic .... had put up a note on Skype forum but I have not received any response

what do you mean computer specs...where do i find these?

Hi

I did some searches on the internet and found this on one of the computer forum...this guy was having the same problem that I am having..but he found a solution...i don't quite understand his reply ...that is the following:

copies from another computer forum

I had an Identical problem as Posted by: peter at April 4, 2006 12:04 PM.
My computer blue screened while using Skype with the message:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with a error ISDN_U.sys

It has taken me 8 months to SOLVE the problem, neither Dell (my computer manufacturer), Hayes (The manufacturer of my ISDN terminal Adaptor) or Microsoft seemed able to help despite numerous conversations.
Finally I did a search of my HARD disk and found three different versions of ISDN_u.sys. I replaced the version on my windows\systen32\drivers (dated 3.7.2002 size 577Kb) with the one supplied with my Hayes Accura ISDN TA (Dated 5.2.2002 size 596Kb)

I have not had a BSOD since!!

As for me..i got the same blue screen and the only way is to turn the computer off computer completely and reboot it...As for me when the blue screen appeared there was no message at all....just a blank blue screen...

I am not a computer geek so i do not quite understand how he replaced the file....

Can anyone explain the above process in simple words...thank you Before we can advice on anything else, we need to know your computer specs, and what is the error message, you're getting.I want to know this:

thanks

it does not matter who the contact is...for instance yesterday I clicked on a different contact say B and it was fine and then I clicked on contact C...and then the "phone"...it rang..and then followed by the blue screen...i am going to uninstall and reinstall Skype and see what happens...i will try and get the computer specs..

thanks guys...and error message...
