Solve : Skipping like a CD Player??

Answer»

I have an old, old version of WINDOWS Media Player, 7.1, and have a problem with it.  SEE, during play of MP3 files, sometimes the song "skips" like a CD would if it had a bit of dirt on it or something.  Now, why would it do that?
And, importantly, how can I fix this?
My machine is a Compaq (laptop) Presario running Windows 98 first ed.  While play, I do not disable the screen saver, but the screen saver doesn't come on.  Disabling the screen saver doesn't seem to affect the problem.  Also, at the time, I'm running no other programs (it's almost impossible to multi-task during MP3 playback anyway.)
If anyone can help with this problem, thanks in advance.

A.D.  = LongDistVgerHey it depends on what you are playing did you rip the MP3s from a cd or download them? If they are should we say "Downloads" somtimes they miss small bits of data. i dont really know why this is. must be because they are cheap i dont know. So try to goe other downloads of the MP3s maby at a higher bit rate. CD bit rate it hink is 128 try to get 320 better quality but larger files..................If that doesnt work then try another player try SOMTHING like WinAmp or Real Player or you could just update your old Windows player.
I hope that helps.

RossThese are downloaded files.  They all are complete downloads, I've played them several times and these skips happen with random SONGS and at random points in the playback.  Sometimes they skip, sometimes they play perfectly.  You know, it happens most often towards the end of the song, say about less than half a minute before the end, but again randomly.  I am also not using visualizations, which have slowed down my processor in the past.
Thanks anyway for your post.
