Answer» So i'm a huge fan of buying name brand products, but i realize, as i dable in computers, i don't know any good brands for the DIFFERENT parts. so i would just like some input from everyone about some experiences, good or bad, with different names of computer parts. mostly looking for
- RAM - soundcard - motherboard - PSU - Hard drive
You'll notice i didn't ask for Video card or processor, because the battle between Geforce vs. ATI, and AMD vs. pentium would get nothing accomplished, but if you have something epic that needs to be said, go for it.
I'll get us started, Hard drive - Western Digital - NEVER known one to last more than 5 YEARS mostly less than 4 before they completely crap out!!
PSU - Antec - HEARD it was good, never tried one, so i can't verify but that's the word on the street Again, it all depends on the purpose. If you are surfing the net and word processing aNY sound card 9or even noe) will do just fine. if you are an extreme games then it might. Even then, some gamers do not care andn a $4.99 el cheapo that works is just fine.Doomsayer...... Well regardless of the brand name , the actual inside components if you will in a lot of cases are made in the same plant .........
you mention Ram ........ always buy good ram ....... cheap ram may work ok in some machines but mixing it with other higher quality ram usually results in problems ....... you might wish to check out this site .... http://www.crucial.com/ it will give you some insite.
Motherboards , what do you want then to do ? what do you want included on them ......? So what I'm saying is you should have a idea as to what you want the board to contain ...... and board selection depends on the cpu you plan on using .
Hard ....drives ....... probably the worst drives I have run into are Maxtor ...... I would have a Western digital anytime ...... But again it depends on the specs of the drive .......... the speed of the drive , the buffer size ...etc. ........just as long as it isnt a Maxtor ...lol
If you ask enough literate computer users a pattern will emerge as to what the favourite brand names are ......and for which products........they like and dont like and why .
dl65 I've heard that Dell use inferior parts and offer crappy service, I don't know if it's true though.Cricial RAM and a Hitatchi hard drive. Those are what I would want.
Why Hitatchi? I am not completly sure. I havent had one thats gone Kerput without a virus/motherboard/power problem from the computer itsself. (I have an ULTRA DMA hard drive w/ 80 GB and it works like a, umm, dream. Not bad at all)
(thought I havent tried Crucial, thats what Compaq and HP suggest to have)there's an old seagate 6gb HD that's been with me for ages. still working ( though unused) after a 3 foot fall off a desk!!! maybe they don't make them like that anymore but give it some serious thought. In fact I do not believe they make them so durable anymore, and the increased heat with large size drives hastens their demise as does all the increased disk activity with each new VERSION of Windows.Well thanks a lot for all the input guys.
