Answer» hi all ;
Every now and again I want to shut down a computer from within the bios stage (ie pre os - praps it won't load anything ) and I can't find a way to do it other than the big nasty off switch - have googled for this info & searched site but maybe don't know the right terms to search for. Hopefully theres some really simple thing i don't know about Anyway, have a good day (even if i don't!) Hit whatever key TAKES you into Setup...then use the appropiate shutdown command...I never recall seeing an actual "Shutdown" or "Turn off" option from within BIOS aka CMOS setup. Personally I've always just hit the power button. If it's in CMOS setup it's perfectly safe to turn off the computer while it's on, since nothing is being done with the hard disk drive, which is why there is a shutdown option in the first place.F10 is "save changes and Exit"... Hitting CTRL X key exits. This is for most popular BIOS's out there

This will suffice for a 'warm boot', if you require a 'cold boot' then the power switch MAY be your only alternative.
