Solve : Service Pack 2 and 3 both on computer? |
|
Answer» I have SP 2 and SP 3 installed on my computer. My computer is showing that 3 is installed. The original reinstall disk is 3. Should I remove SP 2?I just leave them all on the puter. If SP-3 is d/l on top of SP-2 I figure if they sent it to me then I should just leave it there just in case the puter needs something from SP-2. You know how finicky Microsoft can be if you go deleting things and they haven't told you to right? If they wanted SP-2 deleted when you d/l SP-3 then they should have gotten rid of SP-2 during the install of SP-3. Only makes sense to me. I have SP 2 and SP 3 installed on my computer. My computer is showing that 3 is installed. The original reinstall disk is 3. Should I remove SP 2? SP3 is a cumulative update that includes SP2 hotfixes. RTM -> No service pack SP1/SP1a : installs to RTM. SP2 Installs on either RTM or SP1/SP1a. Includes all the updates/hotfixes from SP1. SP3 installs to SP1 or SP2, and includes updates from ALL service PACKS. It cannot be installed to the original RTM version of XP simply because they set it that way (one can force it to and it works fine). When you install a service pack, it creates "BACKUP" files in case there is a problem. If you take a standard RTM of windows XP, and install SP1, it will make backups of the system files of the RTM as they were before the update. If you then install SP2, it will create another backup of SP1; so if you find you have problems with SP2 you could roll back to SP1; and if you really wanted to after that you could roll back again to RTM. Same applies to SP3. Basically, what I'm saying is it's literally impossible to install SP3 without also having SP2 installed; Service Packs are cumulative.Just a question BC_P. What part of this big blue marble to you reside on? and don't EVEN think about giving me Log & Lat. LOL! Doc SP2 cannot and shouldn't be removed...
