Answer» I read Flexplay Entertainment is currently producing self destructing DVD's again. This is described at CD Freaks.
Just wonder if people renting dvd's (e.g. in the USA) WOULD really bother, as I don't think we get such DVD's down under in New Zealand. Anyone USED them and what do you think?Ugh. Haven't used them but definately FAMILIAR with them. I've always thought this was a bad idea and if it failed the first time it's going to FAIL again. Especially now with better download capabilities and better bandwidth availability.I guess then that people don't want a DVD that is not durable, and as you noted better download and bandwidth characteristics. Why would companies bother? Reminds me of the tv series (and attempts to sell such DVD's): Mission Impossible of the self destructing TAPE...i once had my starcraft CD self destruct on me. while it was spinning in my CD drive it blew into a million pieces. it took forever to get all the bits out.
