Solve : second drive?

Answer»

Geoff in Australia, I could use a little help please, I have taken the hard drive out of a computer, the drive has XP. and was fully operational. It has all my wifes card games on it and I installed it as a second drive on my computer but I can't get games to open up from the drive as it is slave drive , also I copied all games to my drive and that didn't work either. Thanks any help
PS. My computer is very up to date with plenty drive space and RamGoeden Dag, Geoff

When you transfer a hard drive over to another computer, you will not be able to run installed games (unless they are considered standalone, with no installer) from the old hard drive. You will need to find the DISCS for the games, and reinstall them on your new computer.

SORRY there isnt anything else you can do, when settings are in the registry on an old computer, they cannot really be moved back to the new computer without causing problems. When you open the programs on your old drive, they look for the registry entries and other system files which have all moved (being run as a slave drive). It all prevents it from working.

(In my opinion, the Windows Registry should not exist, but, what can I do..) Quote from: Zylstra on April 05, 2008, 04:28:52 PM

If your pc also runs XP try amending Boot.ini to dual boot to the slave drive.

I wouldn't bother. The Windows installation was on another computer. Different HARDWARE, different drive letter, different everything.
I'd just LIKE to mention there is this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=39f724eb-4e37-4be0-adfc-786786e73e50&displaylang=en that's currently in beta and only works in the US.

But for the FUTURE... it could be good. Sorry I can't help just now though. ^^;Quote from: Cuber on April 06, 2008, 06:16:08 AM
