Solve : scan slides without film holders?

Answer»

I want to scan some 2 1/4" slides . Due to the size of the mounts they do not fit into the
35mm slide holder.
So I have made a mat using BLACK paper.
This does not work either .
I can't FIGURE out why UNLESS some ambient light around the film holder is required.
Can you help me solve this.

London Ont CanadaI believe you need a white GLOSSY(somewhat reflective) surface behind the slide in your holder.  Not positive as I haven't ever done this, but that is what my slide holder appears to do.

For photo positive slides, you need a scanner that has light source in cover.  This light passes through the slide and through the hole in the matt to the sensor below.  Few scanner have this FEATURE.  How do I know this?  I have one.  There are two light SOURCES, top and bottom.  Software selects which one is used.
