Solve : ripping DVDs from DVD player in computer?

Answer»

I would like to rip a non-copy protected DVD (my professional sample TV reel) from my computer's DVD player to my HARD drive. When reading about various software options (Roxio, Nero, etc) they all PROMISE on the box features that one can rip from camcorders, etc, but say nothing about simply ripping from the computer's own dvd player. I'd like to rip it as a file I can edit on most software - AVI? Does someone know which software package I can do this with? And which is the best one to USE to first rip, then edit. I don't want to spend over 100 dollars on software and find it doesn't rip from an internal dvd player. Thanks..Quote

How did burn that DVD in a first place? It was edited and burned at a professional editing house..don't know what file format they used, but it plays in all dvd players including home and computer dvds, so it shouldn't be an arcane format.
I am using Windows XP Pro. I am sure there must be software that can rip to an easily edited software format and store on the hard drive. The software I have stores the image in its own format I cannot edit from - it only lets me make exact dupes my BURNER. Thanks for any help you can provide. There are plenty of free ripping programs out there. Just Google them. How good are they? You'd have to try a couple.
If you want to go more pro, both, Roxio, and Nero will do it for you.
As for Roxio, which I use, you can rip DVD to your HD either as ".iso", or ".vob".Okay - thanks for the info. Sounds like Roxio is the way to go for best results.I have both, Roxio, and Nero, but personally I found Roxio being easier to use.
If you decide to go for Roxio, AND you have DIVX Player already installed on your computer, let me know, because there is some issue between those two.
