Solve : removing a 16 bit substem in XP?

i have an expired AVG anti-virus and when removing it,a window pops up with the message.... 16 BIT WINDOW SUBSYSTEM- c:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/AUTOEXEC.NT. THE SYSTEM FILE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR RUNNING MS-DOS AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS APPLICATION.  close to terminate and nothing happens? i used this anti-virus for a year and CANT install a new one till it is removed and wont remove.....please help me , id RATHER not do a restoreTodd:

It may be that the uninstall program MUST run in DOS mode.  Is your operating system Windows XP?
