Answer» I downloaded a driver update on my Dell computer. I got a blue screen and error messages. I then brought up windows xp in safe mode. I ran msconfig to try and isolate the problem but could not isolate it. I decided to reinstall windows xp after doing an erase *.* and a format c: from the DOS prompt. I then started up the computer, booting it from drive e. Drive e: had the windows installation disk in it (original disk that came with the computer). The disk started to install but stopped at a message that asked me to find a file called "c:ele5132.sys" No idea where or what that is -- (I did a reinstall once before and all I had to do was swap discs in and out to install DRIVERS, etc.) I am baffled. I can't bring up safe mode anymore. I can boot up and hit f2 for system info or hit f12 to install again but I don' get any further than that same message.Gently clean the XP CD with a soft lint-free cloth... Don't rub in a circular motion but RATHER from the center outwards...Hi, It seems the OS Disk is corrupted, so is not working. You can try installing from a new disk and see if it works. As you have mentioned you tried couple of times got the same message. As mentioned above you can try cleaning the disk and see if it works.With more than 50 reloads of XP under our BELTS here, we've come across missing file issues before, and in all LIKELYHOOD the disk is bad as suggested;
however it could also be either of the following;
1) a faulty optical drive (if you have another spare then try this one first) 2) a bad stick of memory causing the FILES to get corrupted when extracted from the .cab (cabinet files) on the disk.
Let us know how you get on
