Solve : re: changing the xp log off background screen? |

Answer» I just about have my PROJECT done. All I need to do is change the look of only the log off background screen. Everything else is done. Boot and log on screen are set and running fine. I have been hunting on the internet for instructions for changing only the log off background screen and so far I have found many instructions for changing boot and log on screens with only a vague reference to changing the log off background screen. But no hard and fast instructions. It would be much appreciated if someone could point me to a set of instructions for Xp. 98SE was easy to change the log off screen without effecting the log on screen. If you just want to get rid of it and see what's going on behind it, this time add a "/sos" switch to the applicable line in boot.ini. Going to have to try this out on an old laptop when I get home that is running XP to see what is displayed. Quote I just about have my project done. What is the log off background supposed to be? How is it part of the project? Anyway, changeling g the registry should not be ever a part of a regular program that does something useful. Unless changing the registry was the objective. The project is to put an operational LCARS shell on top of the XP desktop. The shell is in place and running. But the shell has no meens built into the shell installer to change the look of the startup boot, logon window and logoff window. Startup boot/logon is complete and runs fine, complete with sounds. Logoff sound is in place and working. I need to change the logoff background. I have the logoff bmp picture ready. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 19, 2014, 05:26:02 PM This is hard to understand. The keyword is: kiosk For years companies have used off-the-shelf- OS to run a stand-alone system for retails POS and travel guides and that kind of thing. Yeah, it looks tacky when p[people see the windows logo at start and end of a session. One workaround is to leave the system on all the time and use hibernation mode. Or, you can contact whoever sold you the kiosk. Or did you do the whole design yourself? I do NOT work for these people. Here is a phone # Call at 1-888-569-5467 Be coy and maybe they will tell you if it is easy or noit. Where did he mention "kiosk" ? ? Quote from: patio on April 20, 2014, 09:48:16 AM Where did he mention "kiosk" ? ?He did't. But that word leads to what he wants. Why else would he want to hide the logo off screen? I'm befuddled honestly...OP, please look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interactive_kiosk Is this the kind of thing the project will do? Quote An interactive kiosk is a computer terminal featuring specialized hardware and software designed within a public exhibit that provides access to information and applications for communication, commerce, entertainment, and education. A kiosk is way far off the subject. This lcars shell on this laptop is just 1 part of a large Star Trek bridge display that my club is putting together for the next local Star Trek convention. Once this laptop is completed and working right. I will be duplicating this setup on the other laptops for the other bridge computer stations. With a few minor changes for like the communications and engineering stations and so on. It won't be 100% looking like the bridge set that was used in the tng tv prog's and movies. But this is the best we can do with funds and materials available. My part of this deal is the computers and electrical wiring because I have an AA degree in electronics, 2 way radio, tv and vcr repair. And there is a prize for the best looking display. We have 2 carpenters in the group that are over seeing the construction of the set. That is in a nut shell the overall picture. Steve A ps the lcars shell prog i am using I found online along with the sounds to replace XP's normal sounds. The boot up, logon background screen and the logoff screen I made up by copy and past of pictures I found on the internet. This link is an early look of the logon screen https://www.dropbox.com/s/wifvkf7pplkrl5g/sf%20logon%20logo.bmp It is now complete and working. That has absolutely nothing to do with what they are dealing with.BC_Programmer, What is he trying to do? Do have the answer? Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 20, 2014, 07:33:27 PM BC_Programmer, What he wants is pretty clear based on his posts. They are customizing the Windows UI to appear like the terminals that are found in Star Trek TNG/Voyager/DS9. I'd almost understand the confusion since they didn't SPECIFY the Star Trek connection, but in the first Post they do mention LCARS and a Google of the same would given any curious onlooker plenty of information to understand what they wanted to do. As to whether I have the answer, I do not know how he can change the logoff background screen. However based on the fact that the linked program does not provide that capability I'm quite certain that it will not serve that purpose. It is not easy to change the shutdowns screen. I read somewhere there is a registry key for that. But I have never tried it . http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291559 How to change the logon window and the shutdown preferences in Windows XP I don't see how the above works. |
