Solve : Purchasing New Laptop?

Answer»

I have been shopping around for a new Laptop to use primarily for surfing and some simple word processing around home.  This laptop will also be used when travelling.  The computers I am looking at are Dell and HP.

Here are the specs on them.

Intel Pentium Dual Core mobile processor T3400
3GB SoDimm Memory
Multiformat DVD+- RW/CD-RW drive with double layer support
Glossy 15.6 WXGA high Def WIDESCREEN display  or
16" high Def TFT-LCD widescreen display

160GB or 320GB Serial ATA hard drive 5400 RPM

Intel Graphics Media ACCELERATOR 4500 MHD

8-in-1 digital media reader or
5-in-1 media card reader

3 high speed usb ports 2.0

Built in 802.11b/g wireless LAN

10/100 Base T Mbps Ethernet LAN with RJ-45 connector

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Microsoft Works
HP DVD PLAY
+ more programs of non significance.

Would these specs be ok for this laptop?  This will be used for some surfing.  I have a desktop for major surfing.

Let me know what you think.

aggie61Yes, those specs are quite adequate.  For your use, 2GB of memory would also be quite adequate.  You can easily get SOMETHING for under $600 if you want to keep the cost down.  Since I have a Compaq Presario notebook PC, I'll suggest http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834107024  A $30 rebate offer is in effect now.

Whatever you get, once you get it, do what's advised at http://adrynalyne.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!AB9DE24BE9AF1B9F!303.entry.  It will speed up your computer.Yes, adequacy is important this days. If you don't have it, then you won't be able to catch up with the latest when it comes to software specifications that keep evolving.
