Solve : Problems Saving jpeg Files?

Answer» I have an itermittant problem with jpeg files.  When I SAVE/download jpeg files, (either from the web or digital camera), certain files will not open.  I get the "preview not available" message.  This happens with files that are both on my hard drive and burned to a CD.

Is there a reason for this and can it be corrected?  Is there a method/program that can restore the IMAGES?

Thanks for any help.
Which operating system are you using? Have you SCANNED for viruses and Spyware? Are you keeping up with Windows Updates?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Try opening them in another program, such as Paint.

The files may be damaged.Look at the file extension. If it is .jpeg change it to .jpg  This is often the problem, especially with downloaded images.Clear your Temporary Internet Files, then try againFirst, thank you to all that answered my post.  It's appreciated!

To Flame - I'm using Windows XP and I do scan for viruses and spyware.  I don't find any viruses but I do have to delete spyware from time to time.

To Raptor - I've tried opening these files in paint and get a mesage saying that the file may be trunkated.  Keep in mind that these files were once problem free.

To 2k dummy - I will try your suggestion and report my findings.

To merlin_2 - I will also try your suggestion and will report my results.

I save images from my digital camera to my hard drive, and then burn them to a CD.  The files will be retrievable at first.  I will go to open these files at a later date only to find that the image file will not open with any program.  This is quite frustrating for a photographer!  I certainly hope that one of you experts can steer me in the right direction.

Thank you!

Most likely tracking cookies. Try using Mozilla Firefox as a browser.

Once installed, report back and we'll go over the settings for spyware free browsin'!I wonder if it's the file name being truncated that's causing the problem?
Try renaming a file to a shorter name.Hi gang.  It tried renaming a file and also tried adding the .jpg extension in place of the .jpeg extension.  Nothing worked.

Currently, there are no image files on my hard drive that have reverted to the "no preview available" mode.  I do have files that I burned to a CD that were once retrievable files but are now UNUSABLE.  Any ideas on why?I guess no one can suggest a solution or fix for this..... :-/tasky.......Are you able to open and read the photos you have burned to cd ...on another pc ?
By any chance have you or did you install another photo editing app .........just prior to this issue starting ?

Which photo editors do you have installed ?

dl65  dl65 - This situation has happened again.  I had some jpegs on my hard drive that were either downloaded from my digital camera, or were scanned from prints on my h/p scanner.

The images thumbnails looked FINE.  I went to open them in Windows Image Preview and was told "no preview available".  I then attempted to open them in Paint and was told "jpeg marker too short - file may be trunckated".  These images were on my hard drive for some time and were retrievable prior to this issue reoccuring.

Any ideas what would cause them to not open?  Have they gotten corrupted in some way?  Is there any way to "fix" these jpeg images?

I do have Adobe Photo Elements software installed.  My os is Windows XP.

Try converting them with a program such as Irfanview
