Solve : Problem booting from WinXP CD?

Answer»

I am trying to boot from the WinXP CD in order to do a repair (I am getting the NTLDR not found message). The boot rpocess starts and I get to the blue screen that SAYS Windows Setup at the TOP. Then things freeze and it sits like this forever. I have tried 2 different WinXP CDs and both my CD drives with the same results. Any ideas? Any other ways to fix the NTLDR not found message? I have SP2 installed. Thanks.Verify that there is not a floppy DISK in the drive, that will cause the error too on bootup.  If there is one, remove it.  Otherwise, try the steps below:

Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
When PROMPTED to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.

Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.

Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.

You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.

Copy the file to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter "D". This letter may be different on your computer.

copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\

Once this file has been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

DaveThank you! I would never have thought to look for a floppy in A:, but there it was. May blessings shower on you!
