Solve : Printer cartridges stuck?

Answer»

Hello. My printer's (Lexmark Z45) ink cartridges don't move into place when I turn it on, even when I open the door to it. A blue light on the right side flashes instead of staying on, not flashing. What wrong and what can I do, if anything? Thanks in ADVANCE.
For the meaning of the error lights, check the troubleshooting section of your printer's manual. If you don't have a printed manual, it'll be on the CD. Report back if you don't know what to do about the error. When I try to print, I get a message that says the computer isn't communicating with the printer. The USB cable is inserted properly at both ends. I also tried to delete the printer program and reinstall it. When I tried to delete it, it said I can't because the printer driver is STILL working. I tried turning the printer on and off with the USB cable out and the other suggestions above, except I couldn't get to the cartridges to take them out. I couldn't find out what the flashing light means. What now? Thanks. The driver problem stopped and I was able to uninstall the printer program. Now, I keep getting a window that says that my computer can't detect my printer. I tried another USB cable that I'm sure works and I get the same message; that the computer doesn't detect the printer. The local electric authority was working nearby a few days ago, with the power going off and on a few times a DAY for two days. My printer problem started after that. Could there be a connection? I didn't have the printer plugged in a surge protecter.Could be...Quote

Did you not find the manual?I had to search, but I found out what the flashing light means. It flashs in groups of two which means the computer is SENSING the printer is not connected to it, even though,in this case,it is.A Lexmark Z45 is certainly not a durable printer and will eat you ALIVE in ink cost. Properly dispose of it and move on.Oh well. What would be a good printer to buy that doesn't eat up cartridges and is inexpensive, if there is one?HP makes a LOT of printers in all price ranges. Most printers are inexpensive, but the ink can get expensive, especially if you use it for photo printing. And whatever you do, do NOT use reconditioned cartridges (in the first year at least) - it can invalidate your manufacturer's guarantee.

I would say bin the printer you've got. HP and CANNON are quite expensive for cartridges, Lexmark and Epson tend to be quite cheep.

And don't expect a USB cable in the box of a new printer.Shopping for a new printer. Thanks to all of you for the advice.
