Solve : Pre-downloaded dvd's?

Answer»

What is a pre-downloaded dvd? Almost everything I've found online pertains to the website where I saw the phrase. http://questioncopyright.com/dvds.html I am also confused because the same product (the movie) is sold on Amazon with apparently different packaging, making it look like a DVD and the product from the website a "pre-downloaded dvd".

This another question, but it's related.:
I work in a college library and was surprised when some movie DVD's came with a disc that students said wouldn't play on their computers. Looking at the packaging it seemed you had to go online and download something. What is the PURPOSE of PROVIDING a physical DVD if you then have to go online and download something? Why not provide it on the DVD? Is it for copyright reasons? This disc would be accompanied by either a dvd of the movie or a dvd of additional scenes, interviews, etc. I've never heard of "pre-downloaded dvd", but I've heard of "pre-DVDs": http://www.homemediamagazine.com/sony-pictures/studios-reportedly-eyeing-pre-dvd-home-theatrical-window-16950

Facing sluggish DVD sales and a surge in lower-margin disc rentals, some Hollywood studios are reportedly considering OFFERING new movies via Internet-enabled high-definition televisions prior to the DVD/Blu-ray Disc release.

As for DVD PLAYING problems, in 99% cases, it's computer problem. Most likely, missing codecs, burn-out lasers, dirty lasers, etc.
