Solve : PC loops during boot up?

Answer»

Hi, I read about my problem in one of the topics but I am totally new to this and do not know how to post my question on that specific topic.  My computer keeps looping during boot up (I have windows XP).  Yesterday we had a blackout and my computer shut off, today the computer kept freezing all day long today, it wouldn't even restart, had to shut it off manually.   However, i think i also have a virus in system 32 because AVG keeps detecting it but cannot heal it or delete it.  I have installed ewido, has been a lot of help but not ENOUGH.  Now I cannot get to my files.  Please let me know if you can help me and what type of information you need (remember I am totally new and need plenty of help).
thanks  Nailia:

Are you able to start your computer in Safe Mode?  Do you recall the exact name of the virus AVG DETECTED?

DocThanks for your response, no I cannot start windows at all, it just keeps looping back to the same page where it gives me a choice to start in safe mode, ETC....
the name of the virus is system32/rdrv  I have not been able to get rid of it at all, it seems to copy itself and it keeps popping up.  But the day before yesterday we had a blackout and my computer was shut off....yesterday I starting having too MANY problems and then I was not able to open up windows... If your system is compromised to a point where Windows will not load, it might be better to reformat and erase the virus plus your Hard Disk Drives contents entirely.

Once you are done reinstalling Windows, take the proper security measures.

You can also repair Windows XP.

Installing and Using Recovery Console

Perform a Repair Installation

How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

Which is highly unrecommended since you will most likely be using your compromised system afterwards.
