Solve : Palm Zire 71 problems- loud ticking sound?

Answer»

Ha Ha it sounds like ticking but very loud, via the tiny speaker
on the back of the palm pilot. Sort of like a tiny electronic MOTORCYCLE would sound?... ever since I dropped it. Everything still works, but when the sound happens, it drains the battery fast. I was planning to buy a new battery, so I will need to open it up anyway.. I was just wondering if maybe it is a short circuit or something. If this thing's going to croak, I don't want to buy a new battery for it.
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else out there and is it shot or what?  thanks in advance..Ticking? Is it a bomb?very clever, GX1_Man.
I hope not.I can't imaging anything clicking unless it is the sound of something shorting out, which could explain the battery drain. How expensive are batteries for those? Would you be able to look inside (like with a battery cover off) to see if anything looks unusual, or to identify where it is coming from?

I have an M100 and a Clie, but they use normal batteries. Quote

Maybe the Russians put a bug in it...

I know that doesn't help your issue, but I couldn't resist    I will help[ once you answer GX1_Man's question(s).

The Zire71 takes a $39.95 Lithium-ion battery about the size of a CF camera flash-memory card, but not as thick. One trick I've used lately is to turn off all alarms for the appointment book. This way the unit doesn't turn on by itself and do the clicking and batter  the battery. I will eventually have to open it up to see if something got whacked out of alignment.
The sound emanates from the speaker and it does sound as if a short circuit is HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY. it has a regular
rhythm- like ticking. To put it in writing it would spell it thusly: "TICK-a TICK-a TICK-a TICK-a" etc., until I EITHER insert the
stylus a few times (sounds kinky, eh?) or tap the unit against a desk or something. The speed is about as fast as you would read the tick-a stuff.
I wish I could buy a new unit, but I just bought heating oil
Thanks for your INPUT...
