Solve : Outlook locks up when opening an email?

Answer»

I have done the following; Virus scan, Online virus scan, repair outlook from the help menu, uninstalled office and reinstallled.  I have moved the PST file to another computer and it works FINE, I can use the preview pane and the auto preview but as soon as I click on the email to OPEN it I get an hour glass and outlook is locked up.  If I go to file open in outlook it locks up as well.Do you have any third-party software....like mailwasher or norton.....which may detect trojans/etc....The only thing I use is Computer Associates EZ Anti-virus
I have also shut down everything running using the CTR-ALT-DEL method and then tried to open email. For the hour glass cursor to be   your ant-virus/third party software detects something! what processes are running when this happens>>ctrl+alt+del keys

What does the events log reveal>control panel>admin tools>events viewer or view firewall logs...

I would also has a: Pre-caution......run a system check on the pst files that you moved to the other pc!......this is imhao.....over the top! well is always pays to be!

When data /info means power in this world..imhao...I have shut everything down but explorer using the CTR-ALT-DEL method and then opened Outlook.  At this point my Anti-virus software wasn't running so I don't think that's what is happeningHave you run chkdsk recently? Is this happening on all email folders or just one particular one?Are you using the email Folder compression feature? Quote

Try an on-line scan from Trend Micro's Housecall, Panda or Symantec.

I have used all three at one TIME and finally found two virus affected emails.
I havn't run chkdsk, I can copy the file over to another PC and it work fine.  The PST file seems to be fine.  I opened an archieved file and the same thing happenedNo compression and I used Housecall for a full scan.Events log/firewall logs checked! This PC is running W98SE, is there an event viewer?  No software firewall running because this PC is running behind a series of routers.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291387Not sure if I am missing something on the Microsoft link.  It APPEARS to take me to info regarding Outlook Express not Outlook.http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=195795
