I encrypted parts of my laptop's hard drive when I was toying with TweakUI a while back, now the laptop is busted (dropped it and the sound port got screwed when the headphone jack got rammed into the laptop). So, here I sit trying to get files from my Installs and ARCHIVES folder with my laptop drive plugged into the SATA bus on my desktop. Its encrypted, and while I have managed to inherit permissions, I cannot decrypt it. I used windows to encrypt it, so has anyone got any idea how to decrypt the drive when its not installed in the computer which encrypted it?

If this proves too difficult, I'll just wait until the laptop COMES back in the mail from being repaired and decrypt it with the laptop its self. Wait you encrpyted it.

Which Bassically messed up the code in everything and that screwed up windows? To decrypt it, you have to have the same hardware, since the decryption software reads a string from the bios directly (I think) to do it. You could use brute force, like John the RIPPER, to decrypt it, but that would likely take 2000 years or more. You're best bet is to wait until your laptop comes backWas afraid of that, OH well. I only encrypted documents and such, important eyes only documents and installs I have on my laptop. I thought that the encryption was hardware side though? Oh well, at least I didn't encrypt the whole drive. Quote from: Dead_Reckon on October 10, 2008, 11:14:21 AM

There, fixed the typo, I only encrypted the documents and stuff that I think is eyes only.LOL, thanks. What version of TweakUI offers an encryption feature ? ?
I'm confused.
