Answer» Hi all,
I have just been told by two computer shops that a new directive from Microsoft now means that you can buy OEM SOFTWARE such as Windows xp and as long as you buy something else like a mouse you can load this on your computer.
What I am not sure of is...can this be your existing computer or does it have to be new with no software on it.
Or would you have to but it on a new harddrive..
Can anyone help with my confusion?
I believe that stores are only allowed to sell an OEM version of Windows when the customer ALSO orders software that is compatible with the OEM version of Windows. Such as a mainboard, HARD Disk Drive, processor and other hardware. HOWEVER, I do not know if that INCLUDES input devices such as mice or keyboard.
