Answer» The other day I lost power to my USB ports. I may have caused a spark inside my computer when I was attempting to install a new video card. Any help will be greatly appreciated.Jourdyn ......Quote I may have caused a spark inside my computer when I was attempting to install a new video card........ What do you mean by this ? Was the pc SHUT down? Did you discharge any static before working inside ? Please explain " I may have caused a spark" Have you tried to uninstall your USB controllers and the reboot to see if windows will recognize the new hardware ? let us know DL65 It was shutdown and unplugged. I didn't discharge any static before working. Everything else works fine EXCEPT my USBs.I Do Not Like the spark bit in your message was the pc DISCONNECTED from the mains? where was the actual spark? in control panel/system/hardware/device manager/universal SERIAL bus controllers/ select each item and uncheck in the power management tabs "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" it could also be that the on board usb controller or a connection socket is damaged, if so you could purchase a new PCI USB Card, which will slot in and give you up to four or more USB connections which would work out with the motherboard controller, to each you can connect USB Hubs for even more devices / appliances what motherboard are you using? some computers are not set up to utilize all the USB connections that are on the board, it might be possible to connect extra sockets to the spare pins on the motherboard. The supposed spark was at the back right hand of the computer, to the left of the fan. I really do think I shorted the thing so any recommendations on a PCI USB Card? I take it that either new egg or tiger direct will have just what I need? The name of my motherboard is Shuttle FB61 Motherboard ID04/28/2003-Springdale-G-6A79AH2AC-00 It says the USB device is working properly. bumpHere |
