Solve : New to SCSI/ cant install windows?

Answer»

First of all I must say Hello to everyone.

Here is the issue. First time SCSI user. IM installing XP professional and all is fine untill the computer reboots for the first time. After rebooting, my computer will not recognize the drive. This occurs after it has been formated from XP install.

If i leave the cd in, the process will begin again. (no kidding)

I feel this could be a DRIVER issue. Its odd that the drive can be seen once windows begins install.

My MOTHERBOARD is junk. Soyo SY-p4vte. My controller card is unkown. I had it given to me from a Compaq server. The drive is a Seagate Cheetah MODEL # tST173404LCV. Im using and 80 to 68 pin adapter.

any suggestions? I appreciated any help.Did you choose to install Windows XP making use of the SCSI/SATA driver function which you are prompted to enter when you boot from the Windows XP CD-ROM?

I believe you have to press either F3 or F6.'I looked into that. Its F6, and its for third party drivers. According to the segate website I dont need any for the drive. I also never recieved any with the drives purchace.

Windows will see the drive and install to it. Its just when the computer reboots, and looks for the drive, it cant see it.

It will however see my contoller.

Thanks, for your suggestion. But im still stumped.Knowledge REGARDING SCSI/SATA drives ends there.

You have tried setting your first boot device to SCSI after installing Windows XP?Are you pushing that 'any key' that you are not supposed to push? (Step 13)
