Answer» HI EVERYONE My husband just got a Ascentia personal notebook it is the Mseries My question is , is it worth upgrading or can it even be done? It does work, the battery seems good , the has a cd disk drive that is not working. Anyone have any sugesstions? Thanks What exactly are you considering upgrading? The Ascentia M SERIES is pretty old compare to CURRENT laptops. If you are asking if you should upgrade, I would think it is acceptable. A new computer would be more RELIABLE, have a larger hard disk capacity, probably a longer battery life and it would have more computing power.
If you want any more information, please ask.ty for your reply. What I am wondering is can we upgrade the memory in this computer, or is it even worth it? This is our very first laptop and we are not very computer smart. With the price of laptops would we be putting way to much into this old one by upgrading? I am also thinking the reason the disk drive it not working is because of drivers. Sorry for all the stupid questions but thank you When you say 'upgrade the memory', do you mean the Hard Drive Memory (where all your programs/work is stored or the RAM.
Also if you don't mind me asking, how old is this laptop?I am not sure how old it is. It has window 95 on it When I said upgrade memory i really don't know which i am talking about. Probably the hard drive to upgrade to a newer version of windows Ok, I think I FINALLY get an idea of what's happening.
Windows 95....That would lead me to guess the laptop is more than 13 years old... If you were to upgrade Windows, I really suggest getting a new laptop instead. It would be more practical and easier than upgrading. However, I would caution you on choosing which Operating System to get. Comparing Windows XP and Windows Vista to Windows 95, Windows XP will be a smoother transition than Vista because XP is more like 95 in layout and functions. I am only saying this because you mentioned that you werent very computer smart Windows XP will be hard to come by nowadays so you might have to get Vista anyways...
If you Right Click My Computer on the desktop, can you tell us the specifications of the laptop.I did a right click on My Computer and this is what I got. Microsoft window 95 4.00.950B AST Computers, Inc Pentium(r) 96.OMB RAM File system Some drivers are using MS-DOS compatibility Virtual Memory - MS-DOS compatibility mode Disk compression Not installed PC cards (PCMCaA) 32-bit Does any of this help? Thank you for all your replys I would definitely not upgrade the OS to Win XP. The processor in that computer is too slow, and it's way below the memory needed to run Win XP with any satisfaction. You might get Win 98SE on ebay. If you can go up to 256MB of RAM, Win 2000 might be an option, but I think I'd limit any OS upgrade to Win 98SE.
