Solve : Need help with Retrieving deleted files?

Answer»

I have Windows 98-second edition.  I accidentally deleted some files that I had, files that I wanted to keep.  The files were quite large so instead of going in the recycling bin they’re gone, I want to get them back, but I can’t find were they went.  Is there any way I can RETRIEVE those files?

There are certain tools that can do so. I suggest that you read the following article to gain a better understanding of what actually happens to removed files in Windows operating systems.

When you delete files from your computer and after you empty it out of the Recycle Bin, where exactly does it go?

I can not think of software that would be able to regain your removed files. Merlin once posted an easy to use tool, maybe he will do so again. Thanks for the article Raptor I tried the program recover4all, unfortunately it can't find the files that I'm looking for.  I'm looking for MP3S that I accidentally deleted if that helps?I accidentally deleted some files that I had, files that I wanted to keep: jessesen

Did you load them onto disk! how did you do what you said you did! This will be interesting! Please note that files which are deleted via the Recycle bin are renamed so you won't find the original name anywhere.

Have a look at the freeeeebie prog "Restore".  It has worked wonders for me and it will recover the remains of deleted files which have been partially overwritten during the normal use of your pc.

Good luckWhere would I find this freeeeebie prog "Restore"?  I've looked and can't find it.so what files where these!jessesen - Restore is here http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html

Also a good read here:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;136517#top

Thank you!  That program worked great, I was able to get all my LOST files back.   Jessesen - thanks for coming back.   Glad you like the little prog, it's the best one I have tried after getting used to the renaming shambles M'soft imposes on us.

I should give it a try as well. Thank you for the link, Dusty.Raptor - At your level of knowledge it's probably a bit too basic - I would appreciate your opinion thoughI, even though I work a lot with computers, do not have the magic ability to retrieve files.

It does seem to work for the C: partition on this computer and lists at least 50.000 files (Most of them are temporary) but when
I remove a file from D: partition (Both NTFS) it says no files found immediatly when I press the search button. Is this because the program has been installed on that partition?

It also works for my FAT32 partition..Raptor

Not sure I can help with your prob as I don't have the prob at all, Restoration finds deleted files on both my C: and D: partitions (NTFS).  Hate to ask but are you changing the partition letter (top RH of Restoration window)?

Yes, also works on FAT32.  I have TWO hdd (four partitions) on Win.98 pc (not the one I use on I'net) and it works on all four.

Have never had to use Restoration in a SERIOUS situation, only "played" with it in case

Regards.Yes, I am changing the partition letter.

I will simply install it on C: disk soon and test it from there.

The problem is that it does not scan from the partition it is installed on. Does it not do the same for you?
