I have a HP550 labtop....with windows vista..and it was all working just fine untill one day when I was working all good and it turned off suddenly....I opened it again and it didn't work then...I removed the battery and turned it on only by the charger direclty...it worked okaaay untill last night when I was working all good then it turned off suddenly as well I tried to open it again but here is what happenes:
I press the turn on boutton I hear a loud strange sound for the fan comparing for the sound I used to hear for the fans..and only lasts for two seconds I guess then it turnes off again before even anything appears on the screen........I tried to open it by battery only,I changed the charger and nothing new same problem repeats....
I've been told that may be the problem is from virus or something even that I don't agree...I feel it is power problem issue,,,,
I can't contact the center u buy product from because I got this labtop as a gift from Italy so I really need your help..............I will appreciate any help..........
Thank you all.........

If you hear a strange sound from the fans it's probably shutting down from overheating... Quote from: patio on July 18, 2009, 08:37:03 AM

I agree. My laptop will shut off if the HEAT reaches a critical point.. no warnings just a shutdown to protect the hardware.
Ensure that the vents under the laptop have space to... well vent. Do not place your laptop on a soft surface e.g a bed or sofa. Keep the laptop on a HARD straight surface.
It is summer as well (for the northern hemisphere) so you have to take in to account the ambient TEMP of the room. The hotter the ambient temp the hotter it is for your laptop. Laptops are very self contained so heat can always be an issue just try and give the vents enough space as possible. Run your hand under the laptop and feel for very hot spots (most likely your GPU and CPU) then make sure those areas have a LOT of space to dissipate heat.well
I understand what you've told me But since I've got this labtop and I work on it on a desk...specially lately when I face dthis problem,I suspect may be this happened because of  working on it for a long time so probably it got over heated...DOES ANYONE AGREE??

I tried to open it again and again and it is not working PLEASE for anyone who knows about this I will appreciate any extra ideas.......THANK YOU ALL..... Quote from: safa on July 18, 2009, 01:34:23 PM

No I do not agree.
You can work on your laptop for as long as you want and provided the vents have enough space it will stay on indefinitely until a real problem crops up. My record is 2 weeks of having my laptop on without shutting down. I write short stories, novels and watch films on my system with no real problems. Your computer was designed to dissipate heat and so the only logical answer is your not allowing it to do that. How old is this laptop?
HP support is world-wide. It doesn't matter, where it was bought.
