Solve : 'My Documents' Crashes everything.?

Answer»

I have been the last 6 hours trying to sort out my laptop.

I can START it up OK and get into and use the internet as you can see. However as soon as I attempt to access any of my progs from the Desktop, the whole lot freezes. Nothing will kick start it. Using the Ctrl/Alt/Del will not work. I can move the arrow with the mouse but neither L or R button works anything. I am running Windows XP; Home 3.
Recently had a big 'Update' from Microsoft! The only way I can get up and going again is by pulling the mains plug and removing the battery PACK. All starts upfine, can get into the web, but, try gaing access to any of my progs on the 'C' Drive, Crash!
Laptop, TOSHIBA, about 30 months old. Memory using about 60%. Tried to remove 'Win Defender' but it will not let me.What protection apps do you have ? ?
You're most likely infected...BullGuard v9Never heard of it...In other words, go to the malware forum on this site and follow the instructions in the post at the top of the pageQuote from: patio on June 13, 2010, 10:37:36 AM

Never heard of it...
Neither had I... a quick search reveals that it has several design flaws, one of which is that it will not start UNLESS you have an active internet connection. That includes when you have a virus stopping your internet from working. Most of it's features, from what I read, are extremely basic, which it's firewall being extremely so- (do you want to allow explorer.exe? do you want to allow iexplore.exe?) and so on for every single process that tries to access the internet).

Also, it seems to be heavily involved in "affiliate" programs, whereby techs are paid to "recommend" it to their customers.

For some reason I find that last part disgusting. If you want to be recommended to techs customers, make a useful product, don't pay off unscrupulous techs.

Seems like a severely limited product, and free offerings like those from AVG, Avast, Avira, malwarebytes, and so forth all fare a lot better at finding malware and viruses.

So, the first step would be to try running another program. Or, more precisely, follow the guide hereHave tried the Mallwarbytes' Anti-Malware, both Quick and Full.
Both freezes after about 9 seconds with the clock stopping showing
[1524] C:\windows\system32\WLDAP32.dll

Will not 'Pause', 'Abort' nor 'Exit' using the buttons and clicking on the 'x' does nothing. No way of getting rid of it other than as I said in original message, Main/battery removal.
Cannot now even open 'Control Panel' from the Start Window.

PS. I even done a 'Restore' this morning to last Friday, but it masde no difference.PANIC OVER.

Suddenly, without warning, the 'System Care' Prog that I opened this morning and froze, suddenly came to life and appeared on screen, even though the laptop had been shut down about a dozen times since it was activated. It started a scan, quickly found 1 problem in 'System Optimization', cleaned it and, fingures crossed, every thing is now running OK.
HOWEVER, I should like to thank those of you who took the trouble to repond to my plea for HELP. Thanks again, Pete.
PS. The Anti-malware prog has also come back to life, restarting where it froze some while ago. Who invented the B... Computer...
