Answer» http://www.majorgeeks.com/ load of gear here have a look.......and cheer up....... ZCA81.....It is my opinion for what its worth that you should spend some time and simply remove all the crap spyware , malware and trojans from your system ....... You have reasonable amount of memory and you processor looks decent . You didnt mention which O/S your using ......if your using XP .......the first thing I would do is .........make sure you have SP2 and all other updates installed. Then I would go into the control panel / folder options and make sure that the hidden folders are displayed . I would then D/L M/S Antispyware .... , Ad-Adware SE personal . Then I would shut down the system restore feature ............ Then I would delete all temp internet files , Cookies and History . Then I would reboot into safe mode and run your anti virus program , then M/S Antispware and then Ad-Aware .......... Deleting anything thats found ............. BTW ........what brand of hard drive are you using ? Then I would reboot back into normal and see how things load ...... It might even be a good idea to D/L and scan with hijackthis ( even if your not infected with a hijacker......it is very good at locating trojans ) Do you have some sort of REGISTRY cleaner installed ? Formatting is an option ........but only as a last resort . Let us know dl65 I just got a rather scary message saying. "Files that are requierd for windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognised versions " Which sound dodgy. Have scanned with adware and found nothing have cleaned registry. Spybot and disk defrag wont even load anymore. Will send you a log of hijack this if thats ok cause I can never understand it. Thanks for continuing help.Have you installed the programs that I recommended in my previous post? You may also wish to use the following scanner: Trend Micro Free online virus scannerIve scanned with AVG and found nothing, the first time I tried the computer crashed halfway through. Spybot S+D wont load anymore. Im starting to get really worried this is something wrong with the hardware. What should be my next course of action? Thanks Hold down the f8 on boot up and scan for the trojans etc...also disconect to the net while doing so.....follow instuctions given....and then follow dsl advice........How can I check that windows is in full working order. Im starting to get messages like "Files that are requierd for windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognised versions" and one at start up saying Invalid boot .ini booting fromm c://windows which I have seen. Managed to run my security stuff in safe mode and found 2 data mining cookies but no virus, how much would that have effected my system?Spybot now seems to take about 5 minutes to load. This is not normal. I once had about 5 virus at the same time and the PC ran much faster than this. Not much. Data mining cookies are simply tracking cookies that keep track of your serving habbits. They are the main cause of spam. The programs you have installed should be configured to work more efficiently. Default installation configurations will not always protect your system entirely. You have been provided with enough LINKS to very good software, I suggest that you look into installing these when you get a chance. Perhaps you have simply allowed programs to become corrupted and installed software that modifies Windows files. This can be harmful, but does not necessary mean Spyware, viruses or Trojan Horses. Therefore, the applications you use to prevent such threats may not recognize them. I advise you to use the following: WinPatrol HijackThis Post the HijackThis log for us to see.To find Trojans use SpyBot SD, AdAware SE & use SpywareBlaster which is a preventative program. All of them are freeware. For a more in depth search use Spyware Doctor. You can use it unregistered but you need to know how to edit the registry. Tried everything that was sugested but found that there seemed to be a vital PART of windows missing ( how did that happen???) Ive formatted my hard drive and now everthing works again, Thanks all the help, Z. C-AI wish more people would take that initiative. Now be certain that you take PRECAUTIONARY measures! Download and install the latest Windows updates and install the the following programs: AVG Free -- Anti virus scanner Adaware SE Personal -- Anti spyware scanner Microsoft Antispyware -- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP HOME and Professional only. Spybot Search & Destroy -- Anti spyware scanner ZoneAlarm Free -- Free firewall - more user friendly Sygate Personal -- Free firewall - more configuration options Or the programs of your choosing. I've formatted my hard drive and now everthing works again, Thanks for all the help, No problem.
