Solve : MONITOR HAS DVI-D BUT PC HAS VGA?

Answer»

I just BOUGHT a PC with only a VGA port but the monitor I want has got both VGA and DVI-D. My question is how would I GET the digital input to the PC? Would I have to get a graphics card or a cable converter? The PC has INTEGRATED intel graphics media accelerator 3100.
ALSO - do these GRAPHIC cards come with the port connectors? Sorry but I have never installed anything before so I don't want to mess it up.You can just use the VGA port on the monitor, you don't need to use both.
Adapters are available however if in future you need one.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the forums. Thanks calum, but when I contacted Dell support the adviser seemed to think I would need an upgraded graphics card.
However, I shall do as you say if I can get a digital output that way.Quote from: Shela on September 03, 2008, 10:44:08 AM

You won't get a digital output, but the VGA output will do just fine until you decide you want to get a graphics card with DVI output.

If those outputs and inputs are correct, then Dell are totally incorrect.

As BC says, it's not digital, but it will work fine. I can't notice a difference between DVI and VGA anyhow, even on my new system - I am in fact using VGA now. Thanks BC Programmer. I understand now.[If those outputs and inputs are correct, then Dell are totally incorrect.

Thanks for that, I might just use the VGA INSTEAD of getting a graphics card.
