Answer» Quote Cleaner wins acclaim after handing in $50,000 cashhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/south_asia/10603417.stmI salute Mr Khan. Hope this kind of seeds multiply.why was this newsworthy, though? I mean, awards, ceremonies.. and for what? Because he didn't consider stealing it? H.O.N.E.S.T.YQuote from: geek HOODLUM on July 13, 2010, 12:40:25 AM H.O.N.E.S.T.Y Yes. I know. But since when do you AWARD honesty? What, am I only supposed to consider turning in a wallet with a few hundred dollars because I might GET an award? Because that seems to defeat the purpose. It transforms honesty into a paid service, and the entire concept is supposed to be about goodwill.Blame it to media. Hehe. I hope the man didn't think of any award in return before he did goodwill. Maybe, the point why he accepted the award is to tell the world that there are many good people in Pakistan. "Everybody is not a terrorist here". - Mr KhanIt made the news because people like to know that there are still good people in the world. After hearing about someone threaten a cashier at 7Eleven for a few bucks, it's refreshing to hear about someone doing the right thing. It's encouraging to be reminded that I'm not the only person int the world that would do a good deed.I know I would have returned the $40,000 dollars.Personally i agree with BC...and i think others should actually pay attention to what he is stating... Do it for the right reason... And PS i'd have done it as well...even though i could use the cabbage... Think about it.Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 13, 2010, 03:27:45 PM I know I would have returned the $40,000 dollars. How would you explain the other $10,000? Another aspect of this that I think is noteworthy is that the man was the father of five children. Obviously, he could have used that money for his family but, by returning the money, he was setting an example of high ethical standards to his children. If he had kept it, perhaps not telling the children about it but using it to help the family, they would probably eventually recognize that their father obtained some money somewhere other than from his job and they might begin ASKING questions of a financial nature. I think we can see where that could lead in terms of family relationships; in that case, the message conveyed to his children would be quite the opposite of the message conveyed by returning it.Quote from: SOYBEAN on July 13, 2010, 05:12:23 PM How would you explain the other $10,000? Currency conversion...it was Pounds.33,000.00 GBP =50,180.44 USD, per http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi?Amount=33000&From=GBP&To=USD&image.x=39&image.y=17&image=Submit, which is consistent with the amounts stated in the article.Quote from: soybean on July 13, 2010, 05:12:23 PM How would you explain the other $10,000? What are you talking about! I would have only found $40,000! *shifty eyes* |
