Answer» Hello, I am wanting to cluster five(lost the cord for the 5th.. buying a new one soon) laptops. They are: HP G50 laptop(Pentium Duel-Core, 2gb ddr1/2 ram) AS NODE-1 2x Acer Aspire 5745PG (Nividia Geforce GT-330M, Intel Core i3-350M, 4gb ddr3 ram) AS NODE-3 and NODE-2 1x Acer Aspire One (intel Atom N270, 1gb ddr1/2 RAM) AS NODE-4 HP (Intel Core Centrino, 1gb ddr1/2 RAM) AS NODE-5 Raspberry Pi with overclocked CPU to 1GHZ(if this would not work as the master, I will use a different laptop or buy a mini-itx) AS MASTER all have 200-700-20(dont remember)GB of HDD space. All have functioning keyboards and monitors. All have Linux, ssh, a user with the same name and password, a static LAN IP, a modified /etc/hosts to have me able to ssh node-1 -l user, SSH server, etc. 2x run Backtrack 5 R3, 2x run XUbuntu (Ubuntu with XFCE), One runs Linux MINT LXDE, All are fresh installs(since 2 days ago when I started this "adventure") I looked at OpenSSI and I am not sure how to get it to work or if it will work at all for what I want. Please no posting of how this is impossible, stupid, inefficient, hacker-only and too big of a project etc.. I am experienced with Linux. networking and computers to a extent. I will be running it on my moms LAN so it might be slow, I don't mind and she doesn't either, If it LAGS a lot I will simply get a mini-itx and install smoothwall(a router OS) which can handle much more than any consumer router and a switch. I am not wiling to spend 7 million dollars heh. I understand this will not be extremely good, I have a bunch of laptops I never use and I want to be able to make use of them and have a higher-than-what-I-usually-have performance.. I will be running PROBABLY Firefox, random stuff, some games that already work with Linux and use OpenGL. I am not rich. Sorry for all the I's I run a FTP server on my PSP and a Lighttpd server will be installed on my jailbroken ipod. I dont have the money for servers and this is sufficient for my needs, PSP can handle 400kb/s! Sorry for off-topic stuff in here, but you will probably think its cool . POOR CPU's been mining litecoins for two days at 30kh/s. Don't make me beg. If you want pictures of these computers together(for some odd and most likely creepy reason), I am willing to give pictures out..I want basically a VM that distrobutes all its work to the various laptops and I can run any linux software on said virtual computer/server.. I could also completely control it through my raspberry pi maybe. I read http://www.southampton.ac.uk/~sjc/raspberrypi/pi_supercomputer_southampton.htm and I am not sure if it will suite those needs or even work on x86 and x64(those are my laptop architectures).Forgot to say that I don't really understand OpenSSI or know if it will work for me or MPI..Quote from: blackra1nbows on January 22, 2013, 01:51:22 PM Hello, I am wanting to cluster five(lost the cord for the 5th.. buying a new one soon) laptops.
