Solve : Mail server and Dynamic DNS question.?

Answer»

I have a server configured to act as a mail server. Is it possible to USE a Dynamic DNS service (such as DynDNS) and use, for example: [emailprotected] as an email address if EVERYTHING after the @ is registered with the DNS service? It is possible but inadvisable. You can set up an MX record pointing to your mail server, but you really need to ensure that mailserver is permanently available - i.e. not a good plan if you're on broadband, since broadband is not a GUARANTEED service. Configuring a secure mailserver that is spam-proof is by no means easy and there are LOTS of ptifalls. I consider myself reasonably experienced in this area and would not personally attempt what you are SUGGESTING. You need a top quality firewall, preferably at least 2 load-balancing mail servers and at least one backup mailserver.

Once the internet at large detects a mail server on your broadband connection, it will be hammered away at day and night. Think twice!
