Solve : lost pictures fm my hard drive?

Answer»

Ok, call me a Boob... Hence my login... I was on travel, came home, family said computer would not boot up.. Long story short, I couldn't do anything with the system, had to call dell (runnung XP home ed) and eventually did a quick format and reloaded operating system... Well, the wife wound up saving baby pictures on the C drive (where the operating system is and the one I did the format on)when I told her to save it on the D drive... So guess who's in the dog house??? If anyone knows how I can possibly RETRIEVE the pictures, I would greatly appreciate any assistance....Quote

You're SOL. Fido's moving out and you're moving in...permanently. Formatting permanently destroys all DATA.
Boob.......Hummm ...that's not what your wife said........
....well then it's all Dells fault.......LOL . Joking aside there are hard drive restoration and recovery services available...even on formatted drives......but its very , very , very pricey. The odds are that unless you used some very good drive scubber when you formatted that the old data may be able to be recovered. ( I would take some more baby pics) .....and just a TIP....store them on a cd in future....... Good luck and I hope Fidos
doghouse isnt flea infected .

you could try this >http://www.ontrack.com/freesoftware/?pageTarget=Software&buttonName=Free+Software or even this>http://www.theabsolute.net/sware/dskinv.html or check the camera...it may have stored them in the memchip...Just wanted to provide an update... It seems that the link that Merlin_2 provided is pretty *censored* good.. I downloaded the trial version of ontrack.com's easy recovery professional and it analyzed my hd and can recover about 85 - 95% of all my lost pics and data... kudos to Merlin.. The free download will analyze then show you what is recoverable and then in order to extract the info, you have to purchase the software which is good for use on 20 hard drives (anyone interested in splitting the cost?) Cost: $500, a lot cheaper than sending in the hd which can RUN fm $600 - $2200... Thanks again and if anyone is seriously interested in sharing the cost, let me know.. Boob you did have to purchase the software bob...is was a suggestion...that stuff like that is out there if you are in dire straits...and the link was for you not to be out of pocket...and just goes to prove that if you format a harddrive... all is not deleted...
