Answer» Just curious if there was something to the effect fo SCANDISK on windows XP Pro?
Thanks.Windows Explorer>Right Click>Properties>Tools works in w2k so xp is probably the same.Yes there is but it is called CheckDisk.
Couple of ways of RUNNING it.
Right-click any drive icon and open the Properties then click on Tools, Check Errors, Check now... , and put a couple of checkmarks in then click on OK.
It will ask if you want to schedule chkdsk to run on the NEXT start-up so just answer Yes.
The second is from the command line...
Start, Run and type - cmd - in the window and press Enter, then type - chkdsk - as SHOWN in the screenshot...
If you type - chkdsk /? - you will see the ENTIRE range of parameters which can be used with checkdisk.
In Help and Supprt search for - chkdsk - for more information.
Thank you for the reply.
I was curious, as I run it frequently on my other computer with ME. I did not see scandisk on the one with XP.
I assume it does not hurt to run CheckDisk often on the XP system either?
Thanks.Just make sure that there is plenty of free-space (over 15%) I've just had one guy reduce his entire D: drive to .chk files by only having 1 GB of free-space on a 60 GB drive.
I set a minimum free-space of 20 % on storage drives and 30% on the OS drive.
