Answer» Ok one more time about this gateway, that your tired of hearing me cry about, ,lol. To recap ,its a two year old gateway, orignal config was 1.1ghz amd athlon ,20 gb WD,hard drive,128 mb ram. Problem?,i have to turn it on and off until it starts up,it wont show any display on the monitor,i dont know if the hd is starting or not ,but i can hear the A :\FLOPPY boot, now after about seven or eight times of turning on and off ,the monitor will come on,some times it will lock on the windows start screen, sometimes it will boot to windows,it locks in normal mode and safe mode the only time it doesnt lock up is in DOS. So now i replaced the HD with an WD/80 GB/8MB buffer,i up the ram with a 256 pc133,which is the same type as the old one, reinstalled Windows ME,(Which took me for ever because it locked up every ten minutes or so,i reinstalled ALL hardware drivers, reset cmos, reinstalled all drivers and UPDATES for Microstar(the maker of the motherboard),that i could get from them, and you GUESSED it nothing worked ,still the same o'l piece of pooooooooop!!!. So i call a repair SHOP ask about a new motherboard, told the man the same thing ive just told you ,and his reply, your power supply is to small So what do you guys think?yes no maybe? Hard to tell !
What size is your Power Supply Unit ? 150W ? 100W ?
the power supply is 250w Try to see if there are any problems with a 300-400 W source.just put in a 350w power supply ,and guess what? :'(nothing the same ol thing The only original components left are the M'board and one of the ram sticks ?
Try it with the original memory stick removed to see if this is causing the problem
If the same problem still occurs then the only original component left is the Mobo - so by a process of elimination this is the likely problem.
(If you have any other things installed like network CARDS, they are best removed to eliminate them from as well)
