Solve : iPod touch water damage?

Answer»

Hello to all. I have a bit of trouble.

I have an ipod touch, 2nd gen,  it had a few problems to begin with.
1 it had a crack in the upper richt corner of the scteen. It workes, so i was not concerned.
2. It had a sleep button with problems, that it would never turn off. It automatically went to sleep, but not off completely.

so water got spilled, at least 4 oz. and i couldent turn the thing of, but it was working for a good two hours after the spill so my concern was fading.

but after leaving it for a few hours, it dosent work.

Any suggestionsThe prognosis is not promising. But at this stage what have you got to lose right? Do not try to power it up again until you have really made a thorough effort to dry it out. Remove all covers that you can. Remove all components that you can IE battery/memory sticks and whatever else you can easily get out. Using a hair drier on low heat pass air over ever part of the computer you can. Stopping after every few minutes to ensure not overheating. Don't hold the hair drier too CLOSE. Repeat often for at least 1/2 an hour. Leave it in a dry place for a day or 2 . Then cross your fingers and ask a big favour from your preferred deity. Plug it in and try it. Also ensure you dried all the parts you removed. Good luck, truenorth One problem Truenorth; you cannot open up the iPod Touch.

Just let it be for a few days. My brother managed to put his iPhone in the washing machine one time. He left it in his drawer for a week thinking it was dead. Just before he went out to buy a new phone, he plugged it in and to his amazement, and my amazement, it was fully functional.I've heard that rice can help dry out electronics. Stick it in a bowl of uncooked rice for a day. Thanks CC for that info. As is evident i don't have one of those devices. I was really trying to emphasize the importance of taking the time to dry it out before trying to power it up. Yes rice can absorb moisture also silica gel. truenorthI had a similar problem. my device took water, worked for two hours and stopped. the problem was that I found out about the water too late. I dried it out for a few days but it never STARTED again. I hope your's is going to be OKIt already had so many problems, Mabey getting it replaced is not a very bad idea

But i loved that cracked screen

I've actually done this before and it worked.  The thing I avoided was trying to turn it on initially for fear of short circuiting something.  After about a week in the rice, it worked fine and never even realized there was a problem.I hear that there is a sensor in the earphone jack, And i am thinking if i replace it, the sensor would then be replaced.
The sensor is set off by water and turns red.

Would i be right

BTW it is way PAST the point of waranty, and I have it tacken apart now. It's just a utility that tells Apple Personnel that the iPod was dunked in Water. It will not affect device performance.i just read about useing uncooked rice you can try that it will take a little time, just place in bowl and COVER in rice and let sit, the rice pulls the water out
